MA German as a Second and Foreign Language / Deutsch als Zweit- und Fremdsprache

The MA in German as a Second/Foreign Language qualifies students for various career fields, including teaching German abroad, counselling migrants in Germany, and roles in communications, editorial, education, cultural management, media, or business. It provides teaching skills for German as a second/foreign language in both German-speaking and non-German speaking countries, and in-depth knowledge for pedagogical work in migration and inclusion contexts. The programme is interdisciplinary and research-based.

German requirements

German language proficiency at C1 level: DSH-2/3, Studienkolleg assessment test (German subject), Goethe-Zertifikat C2: Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom, TestDaF with at least TDN 4 in all four parts, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, DSD II. Applicants without these certificates must submit a B2 certificate and may be invited to take the DSH exam at Trier University.

Accepted bachelor fields

Bachelor’s or comparable university degree in teaching, OR a Bachelor’s or comparable university degree in a subject that includes a minimum of 30 ECTS of linguistics, literature or cultural studies or social and educational sciences.
