APS stands for Akademische Prüfstelle. APS India is part of the Science Section of the German Embassy in New Delhi and verifies academic documents and educational qualifications issued by Indian institutions.
APS does not decide whether a university admits you or whether a visa is granted. It verifies documents and applies the evaluation criteria relevant to the applicant's APS procedure. A certificate confirms the outcome of that verification; it does not guarantee admission or a visa.
APS India checks the authenticity and recognition of relevant academic documents and applies the evaluation criteria for the applicant's procedure. German universities remain responsible for admission, and the competent German mission remains responsible for the visa decision.
APS India was established in 2022. The certificate is generally required as part of the German student visa documentation for applicants with relevant Indian academic documents. Critical rule: APS checklists can be updated. Download the specific checklist for your category from aps-india.de on the day you prepare your packet. The list below reflects common requirements, but your current category checklist is the final authority.

After APS receives your packet, it begins verification:
This is where delays happen. If your university's exam cell is slow to respond to an APS verification request, the process can stall. Inform your university registrar or exam cell in advance that APS India may contact them and ask them to verify the sender carefully before responding.
Not every applicant is called for an interview. APS determines this based on your application category and documents.
If called, you will receive notification by email and/or phone with details about the interview date and instructions. Once accepted, rescheduling is generally not possible per APS terms — plan accordingly.
