APS stands for Akademische Prüfstelle. APS India is part of the Science Section of the German Embassy in New Delhi and verifies academic documents and educational qualifications issued by Indian institutions.

APS does not decide whether a university admits you or whether a visa is granted. It verifies documents and applies the evaluation criteria relevant to the applicant's APS procedure. A certificate confirms the outcome of that verification; it does not guarantee admission or a visa.

What Does APS Verification Cover?

APS India checks the authenticity and recognition of relevant academic documents and applies the evaluation criteria for the applicant's procedure. German universities remain responsible for admission, and the competent German mission remains responsible for the visa decision.

Is APS a New Requirement?

APS India was established in 2022. The certificate is generally required as part of the German student visa documentation for applicants with relevant Indian academic documents. The Three APS Individual Procedures for Indian Students

APS India does not have a single "general application" — it publishes separate checklists for different academic stages. Pick the one that matches your current academic status.

Procedure 1: Class XII Graduates (No Bachelor's Yet)

Who This Is For:

⚠️ New for the summer 2027 intake: selected Master's applicants must now also take the dMAT (Digital Master Test) as part of their APS documentation. It applies if you hold any B.Tech or B.Eng, whatever the branch, or a bachelor's in commerce, accounting, finance, economics, business administration or management studies. Mixed degrees count if the core curriculum or major is in commerce, economics, business or management. APS applicants take the Core Module plus the subject module called the General Academic Module. Step 1: Check Your Category and Download the Checklist

Go to aps-india.de/checklists. Download the checklist for your specific category and read it fully before starting anything else.

Step 2: Create Your Account on the APS Portal

• Click "Register" on the APS website
• Enter personal details exactly as in your passport — any mismatch can cause problems later
• Upload a recent passport-size photo
• Set a password and verify your email
• Log in and complete your profile

Step 4: Pay the APS Fee

Current fee: ₹18,000 for the individual procedure. Always verify the current amount on the official site before paying.

Payment options:

• Online payment through the portal (CCAvenue) during or immediately after registration
• Bank transfer to the APS account listed in your category checklist

For bank transfer, use the exact account details in your checklist (current: Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany — Wiss account at Kotak Mahindra Bank). Keep the transaction reference number. Upload proof to the portal.

The name in your bank transfer must match your passport name.

Step 5: Print, Prepare, and Dispatch the Document Packet

After completing the online application and payment:

1. Print the completed application form
2. Arrange all required copies in the order your checklist specifies
3. Attach one passport photograph to the printed form
4. Include the signed Student Authorization Letter
5. Include proof of fee payment
6. Double-check against the checklist — missing even one item causes delays

Do not include originals unless APS has specifically asked for them.

Step 6: Document Verification

After APS receives your packet, it begins verification:

• APS checks all document copies for completeness and consistency
• APS may email your school registrar / university exam cell to verify your records
• If APS finds missing documents or inconsistencies, you will receive an email asking for clarification

This is where delays happen. If your university's exam cell is slow to respond to an APS verification request, the process can stall. Inform your university registrar or exam cell in advance that APS India may contact them and ask them to verify the sender carefully before responding.

Step 7: Interview (If APS Requests One)

Not every applicant is called for an interview. APS determines this based on your application category and documents.

If called, you will receive notification by email and/or phone with details about the interview date and instructions. Once accepted, rescheduling is generally not possible per APS terms — plan accordingly.

Situation 1: Final Year Student — Degree Not Complete

You can apply for APS before your degree is complete. Submit:

• Marksheets for all semesters completed so far
• Current enrollment certificate from your university
• The provisional marksheet / transcript if your university has issued one
