AI Master's Programmes in Germany 2026: Evidence-Based Shortlist

The Short Answer

Strong current options include dedicated programmes such as FAU Artificial Intelligence and Tuebingen Machine Learning, combined programmes such as Saarland Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and flexible computer-science degrees at TUM, KIT, and TU Berlin.

They are not interchangeable:

• TUM uses an aptitude assessment and requires additional GRE or GATE evidence for applicants with an Indian bachelor's degree.
• Saarland requires C1 English and does not accept a medium-of-instruction certificate as a substitute.
• Tuebingen publishes explicit prior-grade, mathematics, computer-science, and English thresholds.
• KIT's fully English Computer Science MSc is a newer programme with detailed subject-credit and GRE/GATE rules.
• RWTH Computer Science is taught in German and English, so it is not an English-only option.

This 120-credit English-language programme combines mathematics, statistics, machine learning, AI, big data, data management, modelling, visualisation, and security.

4. Research Environment Versus Degree Access

A university can host renowned AI research without guaranteeing master's students access to every laboratory, professor, project, or thesis.

Verify:

• which researchers teach in the programme;
• whether the target group accepts master's students;
• current research topics and publications;
• seminar and project capacity;
• prerequisites for advanced courses;
• thesis-supervision rules;
• external-institute cooperation; and
• whether advertised electives run frequently enough for your study plan.

• open or unrestricted admission is described as automatic acceptance;
• a broad Computer Science MSc is presented as a dedicated AI degree;
• all "top" programmes are said to require the same IELTS score;
• medium-of-instruction proof is assumed to work everywhere;

• a public university is described as automatically tuition-free;
• nearby research institutes are treated as guaranteed thesis access;
