East-West Studies – Europe in Discourse (Ost-West-Studien – Europa im Diskurs)

This interdisciplinary master's programme examines Europe through inner-European East-West comparison across humanities, social sciences, law, and economics. It combines subject specialization, foreign-language training, project work, and, depending on the student's background, a compulsory stay abroad in Central, Eastern, or Southeastern Europe.

Academic requirements

Higher Education entrance qualification (equivalent to German 'Abitur'); BA degree, based on at least three years of studies, evidencing exceptional marks

German requirements

Foreign students need a very good knowledge of German (on the level of the German 'DSH2' exam, which is the German language exam for the admission of foreign students to German universities, CEFR C1) and at least basic knowledge of a second European language. For students not from an Eastern European country, this must be an Eastern European language (e.g. Russian, Polish, Czech, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Hungarian, Romanian, ...) (CEFR A2).

Accepted bachelor fields

Applicants need a B.A. degree or equivalent professional qualification from a state-recognized or accredited university in a humanities, social-science, law, or economics subject. For the choice of specialization modules, prior knowledge of the relevant discipline's foundations and methods must also be demonstrated.
