Roads to Democracies – Historical and Contemporary Perspectives on Politics and Culture

International, interdisciplinary, research-led MA examining democratic ideas, institutions, and structures through historical, political, social, economic, and cultural perspectives, integrating history, political science, and sociology.

Academic requirements

proof of a study-related special qualification based on submitted documents (transcript, letter of motivation, exposé) showing ability to conduct independent scientific work and relevant methodological competencies.

Minimum GPA

At least good (2.5) in the German grading system.

English requirements

English proficiency at C1 CEFR. The official programme guidance accepts internationally recognised tests such as IELTS or TOEFL, and applicants whose bachelor's degree was officially taught in English may use university-issued proof instead.

Accepted bachelor fields

Bachelor's degree with at least grade 2.5 in History, Political Science, Sociology, or a comparable subject, or another comparable first professionally qualifying degree. Admission also requires proof of study-related special qualification shown through the transcript, motivation letter, and exposé.
