Photonics

This international MSc immerses students in the research environment of the Abbe Center of Photonics and provides advanced education across modern photonics. It combines strong theoretical grounding with close links to one of Jena's core optics and photonics research fields.

Academic requirements

If you have not yet finished your current academic degree, you may apply with a preliminary transcript of records including all completed courses thus far. Other criteria that are taken into account include awards, external references, details of earlier projects.

Minimum GPA

English requirements

The official application page accepts TOEFL 550 paper / 215 computer / 85 iBT, TOEIC 780, IELTS 6.5, Cambridge CAE or CPE, or a university statement confirming previous higher education in English. Exemptions are published for certain English-speaking-country qualifications and relevant English-medium study backgrounds.

German requirements

You do not need to be skilled in the German language.

Accepted bachelor fields

Requires a BSc, BEng, or BTech with significant exposure to physics fundamentals, or an equivalent or higher degree in a closely related area.
