English Linguistics (MA)

This M.A. programme provides in-depth study of the English language in its structures, history, and varieties. It combines advanced linguistic, research, and presentation skills with options for study abroad, project work, and internships.

Academic requirements

Applicants must also demonstrate their aptitude for the English Linguistics graduate programme.

Minimum GPA

average grade of at least 2.50

English requirements

English-language certificate at C1 level or higher. The official page states this equals an overall IELTS band score of at least 7.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of at least 95 points.

German requirements

Students without prior knowledge of the German language have to reach a level of A1 (according to CEFR) in German or prove they have taken at least 120 hours of German classes by the end of their first year of study. Language courses are available at the university.

Accepted bachelor fields

Applicants need an above-average first academic degree earned in English Linguistics or a related programme with components relevant to English Linguistics. The official application page states that the degree must have at least six semesters of full-time study and that the transcript should document at least 150 ECTS at the time of application.
