Chinese Studies with an Optional Focus (MA)

Research-oriented master's programme that combines Chinese Studies with another specialisation such as English and American Studies, history, political science, economics, or a pure Sinology focus. It combines Chinese language training with interdisciplinary study of Chinese-speaking societies.

Academic requirements

In some cases, students may have to pass a qualification assessment examination.

Minimum GPA

Minimum final grade of 3.0.

English requirements

English language proficiency of at least level C1 (CEFR) plus good knowledge of Standard Chinese. German at level B2 is only required for certain focuses partly taught in German.

German requirements

When choosing a focus which is taught in German, a minimum level of B2 according to the CEFR in German is required. If you choose a focus entirely taught in English (Sinology, English and American Studies, etc.), knowledge of German is not required.

Accepted bachelor fields

Degree including at least 70 ECTS in Chinese Studies, or a related degree including at least 60 ECTS in Chinese Studies, at least 20 ECTS of which must be academic-subject coursework.
