German and Comparative Literature

This binational MA/MLitt programme combines German Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Bonn and the University of St Andrews. Students spend one year in Bonn and one year in St Andrews, gaining training in two literary fields, two academic systems, and two national contexts.

Minimum GPA

At least 2.5 in the German grading system or a local equivalent.

English requirements

English at CEFR C1. The official programme pages also require German at CEFR C1 / DSH-2 and one additional modern foreign language at CEFR B2.

German requirements

Proficiency in German (CEFR level C1 / DSH-2), as well as another modern language (B2 level)

Accepted bachelor fields

Applicants need a university degree in German, Comparative Literature, or a related subject such as English Studies. The official Bonn programme page also requires at least 60 ECTS in Comparative Literature, German Studies, or a related field, including specific prior modules in introduction to comparative text analysis, literary foreign language proficiency, and history of modern European literature.
