Master of Arts (MA) British Studies / Britische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft

This M.A. programme provides in-depth study of British and Irish literature and culture and those of the former British Empire. It combines advanced academic, research, and presentation skills with options for study abroad, project work, and internships.

Academic requirements

Applicants must also demonstrate their aptitude for the British Studies graduate programme.

Minimum GPA

average grade of at least 2.50

English requirements

English-language certificate at C1 level or higher. The official page states this equals an overall IELTS band score of at least 7.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of at least 95 points.

German requirements

Students without prior knowledge of the German language have to reach a level of A1 (according to the CEFR) in German or prove they have taken at least 120 hours of German classes by the end of their first year of study.

Accepted bachelor fields

Applicants need a university degree with at least six semesters of full-time study in British literary and cultural studies or related subject combinations. At the time of application, the transcript should document at least 150 ECTS.
