Graduate School of Biomedical Science (BIOME)

BIOME is an interdisciplinary doctoral training programme integrating PhD and MD graduates in biomedical science at the University of Duisburg-Essen. It provides research-focused training across areas such as neuroscience, immunology, clinical studies, computational biomedicine, infectious diseases, radiation sciences, transplantation medicine, and tumour biology.

Academic requirements

Academic experience in biomedical science is advantageous. Candidates with excellent Bachelor's results may be considered for the PhD programme without being obliged to do Master's studies.

Excellent results.

English requirements

Proof of English skills at university level; complete written and spoken fluency in English is essential. German is an advantage but not required.

German requirements

Fluency in German is an advantage, but not necessary.

Accepted bachelor fields

MSc degree in natural sciences such as biology, biochemistry, medical biology, or an equivalent tertiary degree in biology or related fields; candidates with excellent bachelor's results may also be considered for the PhD route without a master's degree.
