Human-Centred Intelligent Systems (HCIS)

This cooperative master's in computer science focuses on AI and human interactive systems. The programme is offered by RWTH Aachen University together with the University of Bonn and b-it, and combines strong computer-science foundations with human-centred intelligent-system design.

Academic requirements

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test is mandatory. Candidates should have performed above average in their undergraduate studies and have a substantial background in computer science and mathematics. If substantial background knowledge is missing, a bridging course can be assigned as an additional programme requirement.

English requirements

The official RWTH language-requirements document lists Human-Centered Intelligent Systems under English - § 3 Abs. 9 ÜPO. Accepted proof includes TOEFL iBT at least 90, IELTS at least 6.0, Cambridge B2 First with grade B, Cambridge C1 Advanced, Cambridge C2 Proficiency, PTE Academic at least 60, UNIcert II or higher, a school certificate showing CEFR B2 English, or an RWTH Language Center placement test at level B2.2.1 or higher.

Accepted bachelor fields

The official HCIS pages state applicants need a bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related field from an internationally recognised university. The application page further lists expected background areas including mathematics, programming, data structures and algorithms, databases, software engineering, computer architecture, operating systems, IT security, automata and formal languages, computability and complexity, and mathematical logic.
