Dependency and Slavery Studies

This two-year research-oriented MA offers an interdisciplinary perspective on slavery and other forms of strong asymmetrical dependency across time and space. It combines historical, textual, material-culture, and social-science approaches and allows students to pursue their own regional and thematic interests.

Minimum GPA

Minimum grade 2.5 for the first higher education degree qualifying for employment.

English requirements

C1 English proficiency. The official BCDSS page gives examples including TOEFL iBT 94 or IELTS 7.0; German is not required.

German requirements

German language proficiency is not required.

Accepted bachelor fields

Applicants need a three-year bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 180 ECTS in Archaeologies, Asian or Islamic Art History, Comparative Religious Studies, Egyptology, English Studies, German Studies, History, History of the Islamicate World, History of Law, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, Latin American Studies, Slavic Studies, Social Sciences, South East Asian Studies, Theologies, Tibetan Studies, or a similar discipline.
