Biotechnology

This laboratory-intensive biotechnology master's is offered in a 3-semester or 4-semester variant depending on prior academic background and credits. It combines research-oriented training in cell biology, microbiology, bioanalytics, and laboratory diagnostics with strong practical laboratory work.

Academic requirements

Degrees without a thesis or an equivalent publication are not accepted. Applicants have to submit the thesis/equivalent publication during the application process. (If the thesis/equivalent publication is not in English or German, you have to submit the paper(s) in the original language and to add a meaningful summary in English or German.). A proof of practical laboratory work of at least 18 weeks (e.g., during the preparation of the thesis, practical semester, for details please check this form).

English requirements

The official programme page requires English at B2 level. BTU lists accepted examples including TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.0, Cambridge Advanced grade B, Cambridge Proficiency grade C, or UNIcert II.

Accepted bachelor fields

The official programme page requires a bachelor's degree in the subject area or an equivalent degree with either 210 ECTS for the 3-semester version or 180 ECTS for the 4-semester version, plus at least 70 ECTS in biological, biomedical, biochemical, or biophysical subjects and proof of at least 18 weeks of practical laboratory work.
