Academic requirements

Applicants are required to hold a BSc in physics or be in the process of completing a BSc in physics.

TOEFL iBT 88, IELTS Academic 6.0, PTE Academic 61, or English at B2 CEFR. Applicants without a language certificate may apply with a university letter confirming English as the language of instruction, but the page notes that TOEFL or IELTS may still be mandatory for the student visa.

Accepted bachelor fields

Bachelor of Science in Physics. Applicants with a closely related degree may also apply if they can demonstrate physics knowledge equivalent to a BSc in Physics, including quantum theory; a GRE Physics test may be used to support this.

An MSc degree is a precondition to enter a doctoral programme in Germany. The PhD research is then performed in one of the research groups and prospective PhD students have to find a professor who is willing to supervise their work.
