Computer Science

This MSc deepens formal, algorithmic, and mathematical competences in computer science and lets students specialise in areas such as classical and quantum algorithm design, computer and communication systems, data science and intelligent systems, security, or software engineering. The programme is research-oriented and also prepares students for doctoral work.

Academic requirements

International applicants from non-EU countries need to provide a "GRE Revised GeneralTest" certificate or a "digital Mastertest (dMat)" certificate. The required scores are at least 157 points in "Quantitative Reasoning" and at least 4.0 points in "Analytical Writing". The required overall score for the dMat is a percentile rank of at least 50. An exception is only possible if the Bachelor's grade is very good, i.e. if converted to the German system, the Bachelor's grade needs to be below the threshold of 1.8.

Minimum GPA

Bachelor's grade below 3.0 in the German system; a very good grade below 1.8 can exempt international non-EU applicants from GRE/dMAT proof.

English requirements

English proficiency accepted via TOEFL iBT 80, TOEFL paper-based 550, Cambridge CAE grade B, IELTS 6.5, or equivalent recognised proof; medium-of-instruction letters alone are not sufficient.

Accepted bachelor fields

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent/comparable programme. The prior degree should include at least 20 CP in software engineering, 20 CP in theoretical computer science, 15 CP in technical informatics, and 15 CP in the mathematical foundations of computer science.
