MA English Studies

A research-oriented MA taught exclusively in English with specializations in culture and literature, linguistics and applied linguistics, or a combination of both. The programme explores English language, literature, culture, and advanced academic language work in a strongly research-focused environment.

Minimum GPA

Final grade of 2.5 or better on the German grading scale; in exceptional cases applicants with 3.3 or better may be considered on the basis of a motivation letter and interview.

English requirements

English at C1 level (CEFR).

German requirements

Knowledge of German is not required for admission. Proof of level A1 (very basic) will be required by the end of the first year of your studies at FAU.

Accepted bachelor fields

Graduates of a bachelor's degree in English and American Studies with a final grade of 2.5 or better may apply. Graduates from other bachelor's degree programmes focusing on English philology with at least 60 ECTS may also apply; in individual cases graduates from Computer Linguistics may be admitted to the linguistics and applied linguistics specialization.
