Students at FAU have access to imaging R&D, ultrasound systems engineering, and AI-for-diagnostics thesis projects that are live Siemens products. The University of Lübeck has a comparable relationship with Dräger, whose global headquarters are within cycling distance of the university and who routinely co-supervise thesis projects in ventilator systems and patient monitoring. Most applicants in this field are targeting imaging or robotics research roles; the regulatory pathway is overlooked and has shorter time-to-hire for international graduates.
One eligibility trap catches a significant number of Indian applicants in this field every year: the assumption that an MBBS qualifies for admission to an MSc Biomedical Engineering programme. German engineering MSc programmes are designed for engineering bachelor's graduates. An MBBS is a medical degree, not an engineering degree. Most German biomedical engineering departments do not accept MBBS as a qualifying basis: it triggers a supplementary eligibility review that can take months, requires additional documentation, and frequently results in rejection or conditional offers with extra coursework. If you hold an MBBS and want to study biomedical engineering in Germany, the correct first step is a letter of eligibility inquiry to the specific programme's admissions office, not an APS submission.
