Medical Life Sciences

Medical Life Sciences (MedLife) provides knowledge in human biology, pathology and systems biology for molecular disease research. Courses cover molecular biology, bioinformatics, clinical cell biology, medical statistics and human genetics. Students specialise in one of three focus areas: Evolutionary Medicine, Inflammation, or Oncology. The programme includes lab practicals, project work, and a Master's thesis.

Academic requirements

Deadline: Application periods are set early, starting in May for the next summer semester, to enable international students to apply for their student visas in time. Please check procedures and deadlines on the Medical Life Sciences website. Visa processing times can take five to nine months or longer in many instances. It is strongly advised to inform yourself as early as possible about the requirements for visa applications and processing times.

An enrolment fee ("Einschreibgebühr") of 55 EUR is charged for the first enrolment at Kiel University. A semester contribution ("Semesterbeitrag") currently amounting to 302 EUR must be paid each semester. This covers free public transport ("landesweites Semesterticket") for trains and buses in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, reduced lunch prices, a culture ticket and other benefits for students.
