Energy Science and Technology

The Master of Science in Energy Science and Technology provides a comprehensive education in the scientific and technological aspects of modern techniques for energy conversion and storage (e.g., fuel cells and batteries), with hands-on experience in labs. It offers insights into an active R&D environment combining university research, applied research at adjacent institutes, and industrial development at nearby companies (ZSW, HIU). Courses are taught by lecturers from natural science and engineering departments, research institutes, and companies.

English requirements

The Master's degree programme EST requires language skills at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Applicants must fulfil this requirement by submitting one of the following language certificates: Higher education degree in a study programme with English as the sole language of instruction 5.5 points or more in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS, IELTS Academic (IELTS online) or IELTS Indicator); if both score and CEFR level are indicated, the higher indicated language proficiency level will be recognised First Certificate in English (FCE), Certificate in English Language Skills (CELS), Vantage or Business English Certificate (BEC), Vantage Cambridge exam, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) (Cambridge University) 400 (listening), 385 (reading), 160 (speaking) and 150 (writing) points or more in the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) 72 points or more in the Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based (TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT home edition) Level II of UNIcert® PTE Academic, with a score of 59 or higher CEFR B2 level or higher shown on the higher education entrance qualification (A level of language proficiency which is partly at CEFR B2 and lower is not recognised.) Higher education entrance qualification with proof of language achievement in the last two years with at least five points each (according to the German grading system, in which 15 is the highest/best grade and one is the lowest)
