Communications and Multimedia Engineering (CME)

English-taught master's programme in communication systems, advanced multimedia technologies, and digital signal processing. The curriculum combines lectures, tutorials, labs, projects, a research internship, and thesis work with specialisation in communications and/or multimedia engineering.

Academic requirements

Strong foundations and working knowledge in the listed fields.

Minimum GPA

For applicants from other universities, the current average or final grade must be at least 2.5 in the German grading system to participate in the qualification assessment. FAU graduates from the listed feeder degrees with grade 2.30 or better are directly admitted; grades 2.31 to 3.0 require the qualification assessment test.

English requirements

English at least level B2 CEFR. Accepted proof includes TOEFL iBT 80, TOEFL PBT 547, TOEFL CBT 210, IELTS 6.0, another B2-level proof, or a medium-of-instruction certificate.

German requirements

No prior knowledge of German required for admission. However, students without proficiency in German at level B2 or more at the beginning will take mandatory German courses as part of the studies.
